World War II Historical Marker of site of former German prisoner of war facility, "Camp Tonkawa". North of Hiway 60 at Exit #214 at Tonkawa. Take hiway side road North of Hiway 60 East to marker. The Water Tower silo and a few buildings still stand. The Camp interning 3000 prisoners closed in 1945.
McCarter Museum of Tonkawa History 220 E. Grand Ave. in Tonkawa. 580-728-2220 Early history as well as WW 2 prison camp. Open Monday-Saturday 1-3PM.
